It’s not everyday that one has the chance to get fresh seafood entirely for free, given the fact that its prices have been soaring steadily in recent years.
As such, it’s of no surprise to see a large group of Malaysians rushing to collect kilograms of ‘sotong’ (cuttlefish) that were strewn all across the roadside after a lorry transporting it had overturned.

In a 23-second TikTok clip shared by @__aimaan, it showed a large group of motorists scrambling to get their hands on the sotong that were spilled all across the road.

In order to make the most out of their unexpected seafood windfall, they came armed with cooler boxes, plastic bags, and containers and placed as much sotong they could gather into it.
Meanwhile, a crowd was seen gathering and looking on at the merging road on the other side and traffic had built up as the left lane where the lorry had turned turtle was closed for the sotong ‘cleanup’.

Given the unusual circumstances in which the incident unfolded, @__aimaan wrote the following in the in-text caption:
“Catching cuttlefish at the ocean ❌
Catching cuttlefish on the road ✅”
While the video didn’t mention where the incident took place, it’s believed to have occurred at the Elmina exit of the Guthrie Corridor Expressway.
Was this allowed?
The clip has since garnered 1.9 million views at the time of writing and sparked a discussion among netizens over whether the crowd had permission to take the sotong for themselves.
However, those who claimed to be at the scene said that the owner of the lorry gave permission to collect the sotong.
