In an unexpected National Day social experiment, IOI City Mall—the largest mall in the country—suddenly played the Malaysian national anthem, Negaraku, over the loudspeakers.
The result? A beautiful display of patriotism as shoppers across the mall stopped in their tracks, standing at attention and even singing along.
Captured on video and shared on IOI City Mall’s TikTok, the experiment involved discreetly placing hidden cameras around the mall to observe how Malaysians would react.
The footage shows people stopping mid-meal, pausing their conversations, and even standing up from their seats to pay respect.
Even children, who were in the middle of skating, immediately halted and stood still when they heard Negaraku.
The scene was nothing short of touching.
Despite not knowing why the anthem was suddenly played, everyone’s reaction was the same—standing tall, showing utmost respect for Malaysia’s national anthem, and proudly displaying their love for the country.
The video quickly went viral, with netizens expressing how the clip moved them. It’s clear that regardless of race or religion, the love for Malaysia runs deep.
