If you were born on August 31 or September 16, you might want to pay extra attention as you’re now eligible to be recognised as part of a special national tribute.
To boost patriotism ahead of National Day and Malaysia Day, the Ministry of National Unity, through the National Archives of Malaysia, has launched a new initiative called Anak Merdeka Malaysia.
This programme pays tribute to Malaysians whose birthdays fall on the two most historic dates in the country: August 31, which marks Merdeka Day, and September 16, which marks the formation of Malaysia.

According to Minister Aaron Ago Dagang, this initiative is designed to honour those who were born on these symbolic days as living representations of Malaysia’s struggles for independence and the ongoing journey of national unity.
It’s also a way to strengthen the emotional connection between citizens and the country’s heritage.
Registration is now open to all Malaysian citizens born on either of those dates, regardless of their background, age, or ethnicity.
Those who sign up will be given the opportunity to take part in official National Day and Malaysia Day events, receive commemorative souvenirs, and may even be featured as symbolic figures representing the spirit of national unity and pride.
Aaron added that this initiative is not just a celebration of individual birthdays, but also a powerful reminder of the significance behind the nation’s historic milestones.
By recognising these individuals as “Anak Merdeka”, the government hopes to cultivate a deeper love for the country and encourage Malaysians to reflect on the values of perseverance, togetherness, and patriotism.
Those eligible can easily register by scanning the QR code provided in the campaign poster or by visiting the official link here: https://forms.gle/Zd3fPnGaJwFgWeHNA.
The ministry is also encouraging the public to share this initiative with their families and communities so that more Malaysians can be part of this meaningful legacy.
