In Malaysia, public transportation is super important for connecting communities and helping people get around every day. Trains are especially popular among Malaysians. But, there’s been a big misunderstanding about how clean KTM trains are.
Some people believe KTM trains are never washed. But, something interesting happened on social media recently that revealed the truth about how KTM trains are cleaned. It’s cleared up some misunderstandings and surprised a lot of people
Last year, people were talking about why LRT trains in Malaysia don’t run 24/7, mainly because they need maintenance. This got many interested in how public trains are taken care of. Now, a TikTok video by @Mat98 has grabbed a lot of eyeballs, showing us how KTM trains clean themselves.
How KTM trains get sparkling clean
Despite what many people think, KTM trains actually get cleaned regularly to keep them clean and working well.
A TikTok video, with almost 1 million views, shows us just how detailed the cleaning process is. In the short clip, we see a KTM train going into a special cleaning area that looks like a car wash.
When the train goes into the cleaning area, rollers like the ones you see in car washes start spinning. They have brushes or pads with soap on them that scrub away all the dirt and grime the train collects during its trips.
Then, strong jets of water blast away any tough dirt left behind, making sure the train gets super clean.
After all that, it gets a nice rinse with clean water, leaving it shiny and fresh.
‘It does get washed daily’
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Mat revealed that these cleaning sessions typically occur after the train’s duty hours, this shows how important it is to keep the trains clean for them to work well.
Furthermore, for trains operating under the ETS service, cleaning is a prerequisite before undergoing daily inspections.
“Trains are cleaned after they finish running for the day, which shows how important it is to keep them tidy for smooth operation. And for ETS trains, they have to be cleaned before daily inspections.”
‘I used to think KTM was never washed‘
The TikTok video has sparked widespread interest and discussion among netizens, with many expressing surprise and excitement at witnessing KTM trains being washed for the first time.
Comments poured into the video, with people admitting they had it wrong about how clean the trains are. One person said, “I used to think KTM is washed at a car wash… now I know better.”
Another wrote, “This is my first time seeing a train being washed.”
Another person chimed in, saying, “Now I know. I’ve always wondered if the trains were ever washed.”
