M’sian Woman Works US Hours From 8PM To 5AM For 5 Years, Says Her Body Can’t Take It Anymore

She wants to slow down, but changing jobs at 40 feels intimidating.
Working from home may sound like the dream for many, but one Malaysian woman has shared how working through the night for years has started taking a toll on her.

In a Threads post, the 40 year old woman said she has been following US working hours from 8pm to 5am Malaysian time for the past five years.

Stayed because the job itself was good

According to her, she initially managed to stick with the arrangement because she could work from home and did not have to deal with micromanagement.

She later added that the salary was good, her colleagues and boss were pleasant to work with, and she only worked from Monday to Friday.

However, she admitted that the overnight schedule has become increasingly exhausting, saying both her body and mind now feel tired from working the graveyard shift.

She also shared that she had recently noticed her GERD and gastric issues getting worse, while her anxiety had also become more frequent.

‘I am already 40’

Several netizens who had worked similar hours advised her to consider moving to a job that follows Malaysian working hours.

One commenter said they previously worked graveyard shifts for years before eventually switching jobs, while others described struggling with disrupted sleep schedules and feeling constantly tired.

However, the woman admitted that changing jobs now feels daunting.

I am already 40. It feels difficult and tiring to look for another job, go through interviews and learn new things,” she wrote in one reply.

She also told another commenter that she felt her chances of finding something new were getting slimmer as she got older.

Netizens tell her to prioritise herself

Others encouraged her not to stay solely because of the salary and benefits, with some suggesting she start looking around while still employed instead of quitting immediately.

The woman said she had only been married for two months and that working from home at least allowed her to spend time with her husband despite her unusual hours.

Still, she acknowledged that the schedule remained the biggest downside of an otherwise good job, saying that if she had to work the same hours from an office, she did not think she would be able to cope.
