M’sian Woman Takes 24 Hours To Return To Tawau From KL After Flight Gets Cancelled

The flight was cancelled due to the eruption of Gunung Ruang.
A few days ago, the news of a volcanic eruption in Indonesia caused widespread disruption, leading MAS and AirAsia airlines to cancel flights between KLIA and Sabah as well as Sarawak.

However, this didn’t stop a Malaysian woman from making her way to Tawau, Sabah. She was determined to endure the 24-hour journey just to be with her family for her father’s birthday celebration.

But upon arriving to KLIA 2, she was confronted with the disheartening news of the flight cancellation due to the volcanic eruption.

While sorting out their tickets, Shen Guanru met four other travellers facing the same problem.

These tourists had arrived in Tawau at 11.15 am and were planning to vacation in Semporna.

Not letting the issue stop them, Shen Guanru and her new friends quickly made plans. When they got to Kota Kinabalu, they arranged for a ride to the bus station. They bought tickets for RM56 each and got on a bus to Semporna at 12.30 pm.

They hardly stopped for a break or food during the tough trip. Everyone was determined to solve the problem and stick to their original plan.

Shen Guanru shared, “The bus driver assured us that we would reach Semporna by 10.30pm (18th). My plan is to spend a night in Semporna and resume my journey to Tawau the following morning. Once I reach home, I intend to personally bake a cake in celebration of my father’s birthday on the 20th.”

Although the unexpected turn of events had extended her journey to a grueling 24 hours, Shen Guanru considered herself fortunate to have secured a flight ticket to Kota Kinabalu on the same day.
