From the get-go, their immediate chemistry seemed like love at first sight. However, Ying was unaware of the horrors that were awaiting her.

Aside from the mental manipulation, Ying’s boyfriend also became physically abusive towards her, where one certain instance is seared in her memory:

I remember this one time at a park, he told me not to look up and to keep walking fast. Being human, I instinctively looked up and saw three Bangladeshi men giving me a dirty look.

“My boyfriend felt disrespected as I didn’t listen to his instructions and started walking ahead of me. I had a knee injury at the time and couldn’t keep up with him. But, he never bothered to ask why I didn’t listen to him,” she recounted.

When Ying eventually caught up with her boyfriend, he caused a scene and threatened to leave her.

He punched me, hit me in the face, kicked me, threw objects like iron rods at me. My neighbour who heard the chaos called my mom, who quickly rushed to me as my boyfriend fled on my bike.

Troublingly, Ying said said the park incident wasn’t an isolated case, claiming that her boyfriend manhandled her and showed aggression over trivial matters, leaving her deeply unhappy throughout the relationship.

No longer a couple

Given the fact that he was from Pakistan, Ying’s boyfriend does not have a permanent home. This was an obstacle for Ying in tracking him down, as she did not know where to look for him other than knowing his somewhere with his friends.

Ying told WeirdKaya that her intention in sharing her story is to raise awareness about the importance of women’s safety in relationships.

I urge all women to be more cautious and mindful, especially when entering a relationship with someone whose background is not well-known.
