Staff members in retail outlets play a crucial role in crafting a delightful shopping experience for customers, which will in turn potentially cause them to make a purchase.
However, there are some who would sometimes pass judgement on certain customers by deeming them not financially worthy to even step into the premise, particularly at luxury stores.
M’sian woman claims mum was judged by Bonia staff
In a 2-minute long TikTok video posted by @trisyalee, she recounted the unpleasant experience she and her mother had at a Bonia outlet at Central i-City in Shah Alam.
According to her, she and her mum were shopping for close-toed shoes as her mum needed one to wear at a meeting. After visiting several stores, her mum decided to stop by Bonia.
However, she claimed that the staff threw them judgmental glances and didn’t attend to them, causing them to leave empty-handed.
Do you think people who dress sloppy don’t have money? And only those who dress ‘rich’ do?” she ranted in the clip.
Speaking to Weirdkaya, Trisya said her mother tried to inquire about the shoes from the staff, but no one bothered to provide an explanation or assistance.
“I simply gave them a fierce glare to express my dissatisfaction before leaving the store with my mum as I have nothing to gain by creating a scene.
“However, I do want to emphasise that the issue doesn’t lie with Bonia, but with the behaviour of specific individuals as their actions don’t reflect the company’s overall customer service standards,” she said.
‘OMG same!’
In the comment section, it seemed that such instances of poor customer service at Bonia wasn’t new, with several netizens sharing their own negative experiences.
‘Same thing happened to me! I walked into the same Bonia outlet and they were glaring at me from top to bottom and even side-eyed me.’
‘I have experienced something similar at Bonia AEON Klang. That time I was tempted to say, ‘Sis, your salary is just my allowance.’
‘My late grandmother went to Bonia at SOGO back in 2008 and the staff gave her judgmental looks. In the end, she chose an ugly bag which cost RM2,000.’
WeirdKaya has reached out to Bonia for further comment and we will update this article once we receive a response.
