M’sian Woman Rethinks Marriage After Realising RM6K Combined Salary May Not Be Enough To Raise A Child

Love may be blind, but the monthly commitments are very visible.
Getting married and starting a family may be a dream for many, but the rising cost of living has caused one woman to reconsider whether she can afford it.

In a post, the woman shared that she had been chatting with her mother before bed when she brought up her plan to get married by the end of the year despite not having a boyfriend yet.

Did the maths and became worried

Despite being single, the woman began calculating how much she and her imaginary husband might earn and spend each month.

She estimated that both of them would earn RM3,000 each, giving them a combined monthly income of RM6,000.

However, she believed a large portion of the husband’s salary would immediately go towards essential commitments.

The house alone would cost RM1,500, and my husband would need a car, which could cost around RM700 a month. That already comes up to RM2,200, leaving only RM800.”

She added that raising one child could cost nearly RM1,000 a month after factoring in nursery fees, diapers, milk and other necessities.

After looking at the figures, she jokingly said she had decided not to get married because her imaginary husband did not seem financially ready.

She also wondered how couples could have children without carefully planning their finances beforehand, as almost everything involved money.

Her post sparked a discussion among netizens, with some saying that one’s financial situation could change after marriage or having children.

One commenter encouraged her to proceed if she met the right person, saying that sustenance could come after marriage.

In response, the woman explained that she was thinking this way because her future partner had not appeared yet.

However, she added that if she met a suitable man who was ready for marriage, she would be willing to proceed as long as he could provide the basic necessities.

Another netizen reminded her that sustenance would arrive at the right time and encouraged her to remain positive.
