A woman has questioned whether she was wrong for no longer preparing meals for her husband, who allegedly gives her just RM350 a month for household expenses.
In a social media post, the woman said the amount was barely enough while she had to pay for electricity, WiFi and their child’s school expenses on her own.
Felt like she was caring for two children
The woman said she had grown tired of constantly thinking about what her husband would eat, describing the situation as though she were caring for two children.
She now buys food only for herself and their child.
I’m tired of preparing food for my husband. It feels like he is taking advantage of me and my salary,” she wrote.
She also claimed that her husband would take salary advances every week for his own spending but never offered to buy her food.
According to her, he previously gave her between RM1,000 and RM1,200 a month. However, the amount gradually dropped to RM350 and sometimes as little as RM150.
She said she was unsure of his actual salary as he had allegedly taken multiple advances from it.
Married for nine years
Responding to those who asked whether they had discussed finances before marriage, the woman said they had been married for nine years.
She claimed things were fine at the beginning, but the situation had changed over the past two years.
The couple had also attended counselling, but she said the officer advised them to try reconciling first.
She admitted that she used to bring home good food despite receiving little money from her husband, as she did not mind spending on the family.
However, she now felt that her kindness was being taken for granted.
Netizens urge couple to discuss finances
Several netizens supported the woman’s decision to stop preparing food for her husband.
Another said it would be better to remain single than have a husband who behaved that way.
However, others urged her to find out her husband’s actual income and monthly commitments before deciding what to do next.
One commenter advised the couple to review his salary, fixed expenses and remaining balance together to determine whether he could reasonably contribute more.
The woman responded that although she held his bank card, she still did not know how much he earned due to the advances he allegedly took.
