A woman has recently gone viral on social media after she was filmed ordering nasi kandar at a stall solely using Tamil, which has left netizens amazed.
M’sian woman orders nasi kandar in fluent Tamil
In a Tiktok video shared by Lyna (@lmk.88), she shared a video of her mother effortlessly conversing in fluent Tamil while ordering nasi kandar in Penang.
In the video, her mother can be seen putting her lingual prowess on display as she selected her dishes in Tamil.
Speaking to Weirdkaya, Lyna mentioned that her paternal grandparents hailed from India, which created communication challenges for her mother.
Determined to bridge this gap, her mother committed herself to mastering Tamil within two years, which was largely driven by the grandparents’ presence at home.
“Having gleaned much of the language from my grandmother, my mother can now converse fluently in Tamil with my Indian relatives.
“She also owns a gold jewellery shop at Ipoh’s Little India, where her command of the language has greatly aided her in communicating with Indian customers.
“Aside from my mother, everyone in the family has mastered Tamil after they were taught by my grandmother,” she said.
When asked about people’s reaction to hearing her mum speaking Tamil fluently, she revealed that people are often surprised whenever she began talking.

The video quickly amassed over 300,000 views at the time of writing, where netizens were amazed to see Lyna’s mother conversing effortlessly in Tamil.
