M’sian Woman Loses RM30K To Mediums Who Claimed Her Son Needed To Be ‘Cleansed’ Of Bad Luck

Unlucky.
In this day and age, scammers will go to great lengths to fleece victims of their money by preying on their fears or cooking up claims that simply don’t exist.

A woman was left RM30,000 poorer after she fell for the words of scammers who claimed that bad luck had descended on her son and would result in his death.

Sarawak police chief Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri told the English daily that the women began conversing with the victim and told her that they knew her son was cursed with bad luck and would die soon.

“They coaxed her into believing that she needed to get her son cleansed and that they are mediums who can help her get rid of the bad fortune.

“After withdrawing RM30,000, a ‘cleansing ritual’ with some water was performed and the women gave the victim a package wrapped in newspaper,” he said.

Azman said the scammers told the woman that the package contained her RM30,000 in cash and instructed her not to unwrap it for the next four days.

On June 23, the woman and her son duly opened the package and realised that it contained salt.

Police are currently looking for the suspects and Azman urged the public to lodge a report at the nearest police station if they are contacted or pressured by strangers who offer services and demand payment.

Always be on your guard against scammers and seek help from the authorities when in doubt!
