Jobless M’sian Woman Accused Of Stealing Step-Aunt’s Debit Card To Buy iPhone 14 Pro Pleads Not Guilty

The total amount stolen was RM8,200.
An unemployed 21-year-old woman who was accused of stealing her aunt’s debit card to buy an iPhone 14 Pro has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Nur Humaira Shanuk Haziki claimed trial when the charges were read to her before Magistrate Nadia Othman yesterday (Apr 18), reported Sinar Harian.

Accused of stealing RM8,200 from step-aunt

According to the charge sheet, Nur Humaira was accused of stealing a debit card belonging to Nor Farah Hanim Alias and withdrawing RM8,200 from her bank account without her knowledge at an apartment in Chow Kit on Mar 23 and 24.

The charge was framed under Section 4(1)(a) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997 and punishable under Section 4 (3) of the same Act, where it carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine not more than RM150,000, or both, if convicted.

For the alternative charge, Nur Humaira was accused of misappropriating the victim’s property by withdrawing money from her account at the same location and time, where she faced a maximum jail term of five years and a fine under Section 403 of the Penal Code.

Nur Humaira, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Released on bail

The court later set bail at RM4,000 with two sureties and ordered Nur Humaira to report herself to the nearest police station every month.

Last Friday, news of Nur Humaira allegedly stealing money to purchase an iPhone 14 Pro went viral after her step-aunt took to Facebook to express her shock and disappointment to see only RM500 left in her bank account.
