Following the ‘collision’, the woman is brought down to her knees with a dazed look on her face, as if she was trying to digest what had just happened before the video came to a hasty end.

After the clip went viral, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) issued a statement on its Facebook page regarding the incident and provided more details on it.

According to SRT’s Chief of the Governor’s Office Ekkarat Sriarayanphong, he said the incident occurred on Aug 5 at 3.15pm onboard a train that was travelling from Sungai Kolok to Nakhon Si Thammarat.

A 19-year-old passenger tried to make online content by hanging onto the train’s steps and leaning out of the carriage. Her head then struck a pole forcefully, causing her to fall onto the platform at Phatthalung Station.

Thankfully, she didn’t suffer any internal injuries except for a swollen and bruised head and was discharged from the hospital.

Following the incident, SRT wrote that it has since instructed its staff to increase the frequency of safety checks and to provide safety advice to passengers.

It also called upon passengers not to engage in dangerous behaviors such as:

  • Standing or riding in the spaces between carriages or on the train steps
  • Boarding/alighting from the train while it is moving
  • Extending their arms, legs, or head outside the train
  • Climbing/sitting on the edges of windows or doors
