A Malaysian woman said she resigned just four days into a new job after her boss allegedly pressured her to become his personal assistant and made several comments that left her feeling unsafe.
Taking to Threads, @anylakrrn_ shared that she had originally interviewed for an accounts position at a small company in the Permas area of Johor Bahru.
However, things allegedly took an unexpected turn shortly after she started working there.
Boss allegedly asked her to become his PA
According to the woman, her boss suddenly asked her to accompany him as his personal assistant for a day despite her being hired for an accounts role.
During lunch, she claimed that he showed her photos and videos of his former personal assistant and made comments about the woman’s appearance, clothing and religion.
She also alleged that her boss repeatedly tried to convince her to become his permanent PA, telling her that she could earn more compared to working in accounts.
Despite making it clear that she wanted to remain in her original position, she claimed that he continued asking her to follow him for work.
Allegedly asked her to dress ‘sexier’
The woman also claimed that her boss informed her about upcoming outstation trips, including one lasting almost a week, even though he knew she was married and had a young child.
She further alleged that he asked her to accompany him to meet customers for sales and told her not to dress like she had previously.
According to her, she was wearing a blouse, shawl and slacks at the time, but her boss allegedly suggested that she wear something “sexier” instead.
She also claimed that he repeatedly made uncomfortable remarks about relationships, marriage and how people should behave in order to become wealthy.
Although she said he never physically touched her, the woman wrote that she felt increasingly uncomfortable and unsafe whenever she had to accompany him outside the office.
Resigned after 4 days
Things came to a head when her boss allegedly called her at around 8.14pm and again told her to accompany him for sales the following day.
She immediately ended the call and later discussed the situation with her husband, who advised her to leave the company.
The woman subsequently submitted a 24-hour resignation notice via WhatsApp and blocked her boss.
She added that she had yet to receive an offer letter despite already starting work, claiming that the company planned to provide it only after she had worked there for a week.
In later replies, she said she intended to return to the office with her siblings to collect her belongings as she was afraid of meeting her boss alone.
Her story drew thousands of reactions on Threads, with many netizens urging her to prioritise her safety and leave the workplace.
One commenter suggested that she bring someone along when collecting her belongings, while others advised her to keep records of the incident should she need to make a report.
The woman later confirmed that she had already submitted her resignation and said she would rather walk away from the job than continue working somewhere she did not feel safe.
