Mamak restaurant are a cornerstone of Malaysia’s food culture, where it’s the place where hungry diners can have a filling meal without breaking the bank.
However, it’s also a place where hygiene standards may not be the best, leading to horrific discoveries like what one woman did with a couple of soy sauce containers.
M’sian woman disgusted by dirty soy sauce containers
In a series of Facebook videos shared by Balan Pubalan 2 on Monday (August 14), it showed the woman revealing the extent of filthiness that she found on several soy sauce containers.
In one of the clips, she’s seen wiping a finger around the rim of one of the containers, where it left behind a blackish substance, suggesting that it could be mould.
To her horror, she realised that all of the other containers were in the same filthy condition and confronted one of the workers.
Claimed to have cleaned the containers daily
Upon being confronted over the soy sauce containers, the worker tried to brush the matter off and said that the containers were washed daily.
However, when the woman demanded that he dip his finger into the container and smell it, he seemed hesitant to do so.
According to the videos, the incident took place at a popular mamak restaurant in Rawang.

Netizens were equally as repulsed by the deplorable hygiene standards at the mamak restaurant and expressed their thoughts in the comment section.
One commented that most mamak restaurants don’t bother about maintaining hygiene and said it is best to avoid going there.
Another wrote that he rarely goes to mamak restaurants except to watch football matches after hearing of numerous cases of worms found inside the food.
Some praised the woman for confronting the staff and urged her to lodge a report with the Ministry of Health (MOH).
