A Malaysian woman said she has been left under financial strain after her husband continued earning only RM2,000 a month despite working nearly 12 years at the same company as an IT Head of Department.
She shared her frustration in a post on social media, sparking widespread discussion online.
RM2,000 for her 35yo husband
The 27-year-old woman shared on Threads that the situation has forced her to rely heavily on her own income of RM3,500 a month to cover most of the household expenses, including utility bills and daily necessities.
My husband is 35 years old and earns RM2,000, while I earn RM3,500,” she wrote, adding that she often feels pressured as the financial responsibilities of the household fall largely on her shoulders.
According to her, her husband has remained with the same company for almost 12 years despite his salary never increasing.

More concerning, she claimed that there are no contributions to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) or the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).
She also revealed that her husband’s salary is frequently paid late, forcing her to prepare emergency funds just to manage monthly expenses and utility payments.
HOD title was just a formality on paper
The woman said the situation made her feel that her husband’s HOD title was merely a formality on paper.
She pointed out that he possesses strong IT skills, including repairing computers and laptops, and has even been sought after by her own workplace to provide external IT support.
He could go much further with the knowledge he has,” she said, adding that she has repeatedly encouraged him to look for better job opportunities.
However, her husband reportedly refuses to leave the company out of sympathy for his subordinates and loyalty to the employer, which is based in Klang.
“He says he feels sorry for the staff under him and the company if he leaves. But our child is growing up. Even paying registration fees needs careful planning,” she shared.
She clarified that her husband is not autistic, but rather someone who is extremely loyal to his workplace.
Netizens’ comments
Her post sparked widespread reactions online, with many netizens expressing shock at the situation.
‘Sis, the IT profession is in high demand outside. Ask him to look on LinkedIn. With his experience, it shouldn’t be difficult to secure a job with better pay.’

‘Haha, the HOD title with a RM2k salary is really something. Honestly, he could already run his own business and become a third-party IT support consultant.’

‘Change jobs immediately. Not providing EPF and SOCSO is ridiculous, and there’s no growth. The company doesn’t value him. He doesn’t have retirement funds at all from the company. Any other company would offer better terms.’
