There are some who would go to great lengths to avoid paying for a service just to save on a few bucks, leaving those expecting payment for the service rendered hanging.
This was exactly what happened to a Grab driver, who found himself cheated of payment after giving a passenger a ride.
Grab passenger runs away without paying
In a bid to warn other Grab drivers who may meet similar passengers, the driver posted a 1-minute clip to the Facebook group 新山Bukit Indah大小事 showing how it all went down.
In the first 25 seconds of the clip, both the driver and the passenger were inside the car while the ride was taking place.
At the 28-second mark, the passenger, who was dressed in a purple hoodie, asked the Grab driver whether he could pay in cash.
When the driver replied in the affirmative, the passenger told him that he would need to go get some cash before opening the car door and alighting from the vehicle.
As the driver waited, he noticed that the passenger failed to return, leading him to realise that the latter never had the intention of paying for the ride.
In the caption, he wrote: “He took a Grab but fled after saying that he would go get some money. To the next driver, please be careful.”
Netizens urge driver to lodge police report
In the comment section, netizens gave various suggestions to the driver on what should be his next course of action following the incident.
Some advised him to lodge a police report.
Another suggested getting the fare payment before starting the ride to avoid being cheated.
One netizen jokingly commented, ‘Am I the only one to notice that the passenger’s clothes has the same colour as your car seat?’
