A Malaysian woman who suffered from intense toothache and swollen gums ended up visiting three government dental clinics in a single day to complete her scaling and partial fillings, and was pleasantly surprised by how affordable and professional the services were.
According to Sin Chew Daily, she shared her experience on social media as a guide for others, especially those looking for low-cost dental treatment through the public healthcare system.
Learned that government dental clinics are cheaper
According to her post, she initially assumed her pain was caused by “heatiness”, but the discomfort worsened quickly.
The sharp, nerve-triggering pain became unbearable, prompting her to seek treatment the next day.

After reading many online posts comparing prices, she learned that government dental clinics were significantly cheaper, but required patients to arrive early and wait patiently.
Since it was too late to secure an appointment, she walked into the Sri Kembangan clinic, only to find it undergoing renovation and attending only to emergency cases or pre-booked patients. She was able to undergo a basic check-up, but nothing more.
During the initial check, the dentist told her that her gums were unhealthy, with a buildup of plaque, tartar, and several cavities. If untreated, she might eventually need an extraction.
Determined to avoid that outcome, she immediately searched for open slots on the MySejahtera app, describing it as a “try your luck” system where patients can check clinic schedules and snag last-minute openings.
Clinic 2: Medan Gopeng — completed scaling
She managed to secure an appointment at the Medan Gopeng clinic, where the process was quick and organised.
After a blood pressure check, she was called into the treatment room.
Since clinics only allow one procedure per visit, she completed her scaling there. She praised the dentist for being “gentle and careful” throughout the process and even received two complimentary toothpaste tubes.
Clinic 3: Taman Tun Dr Ismail — two fillings completed
After that, she headed to Taman Tun Dr Ismail clinic for fillings.
To her surprise, she waited only 10 minutes before being called in — something rarely heard of in dental care.
Because she feared pain, the dentist gave her local anesthesia before proceeding. The original plan was to fill four teeth, but only two could be completed that day; the remaining two would require another appointment.
‘Exhausting but worth it’
Although she admitted it was tiring to run between three clinics in one day, she expressed deep appreciation for the professionalism and attention shown by government dental healthcare workers. She also highlighted how much she saved in treatment costs and leave time.
Before ending her post, she reminded Malaysians to:
Get your teeth checked every six months and take dental health seriously.”
Her experience quickly gained attention online, with many agreeing that although government clinics require patience, they remain one of the most affordable and reliable options for dental care in Malaysia.
