A Thai netizen posted a photo of Bangkok’s skyline online and declared that Bangkok is 400 times more developed than Kuala Lumpur.
You’d think Malaysians would jump in to defend KL, but the opposite happened. They agreed. Sarcastically. Enthusiastically. And almost proudly.
M’sians sarcastically agree
The post was clearly meant to spark a KL vs Bangkok argument, but Malaysians immediately switched into full sarcasm mode.
Instead of fighting, they presented KL as a forgotten jungle village just to redirect the more questionable tourist crowd northwards.
One replied: ‘You are absolutely correct. Malaysia is 50 years behind Bangkok. We in KL live in treehouses. No malls, no hotels, no airport. We travel with cows and buffalo.‘

Another added: ‘I can confirm, I had to run to Singapore to send this comment. I won’t know if you liked or replied to this comment as there’s no Internet in Malaysia.’

Another joked that KL was too “basic” for sophisticated travellers, adding that there was nothing to see except for jungles and monkeys.

Eventually, even Indonesians joined in the fun, with one asking why they were left out of the online drama.

KL and Bangkok both have their strengths, but this thread shows something very Malaysian. If you insult KL, Malaysians won’t fight back physically, but will instead use the power of words and sarcasm.
