Delivery riders undoubtedly play a vital role in our lives as they work both in rain and shine to make sure our meals are delivered to us on time.
A video recently showed a heartwarming encounter a tauhu bergedil vendor had with a delivery rider who couldn’t afford to buy a meal for himself.
Rider asks to transfer RM5 to vendor
In an Instagram video uploaded by the vendor three days ago, it showed her in the midst of preparing an order when she was approached by a delivery rider who came to pick up and order and asked:
Can I transfer RM5 from (my Shopee app) to you and get RM5 in cash from you?
As first, the vendor thought nothing much of it but the rider then told her that he couldn’t withdraw money from his bank account and needed RM5 to feed himself.
Upon hearing his explanation, the vendor became silent and a look of sadness could be seen on her face.
“It’s 3pm now and the thought of him going hungry made me heartbroken,” she wrote in the video caption.
In her conversation with the rider, she also discovered that he worked at a factory at night and as a Shopee delivery rider at day. She also saw that he was struggling to sustain himself with the two jobs.
M’sian vendor gives free food to delivery rider
Touched by his story, the vendor decided to treat him to a free meal and handed him a packet of tauhu bergedil so that he could fill his stomach, much to the rider’s surprise and gratitude.
Speaking to mStar, the vendor, whose name is Norzahirah Anua Mohd Yusoff, said she has been operating the stall with her husband in Damansara Damai since 2020.
She said that this isn’t the first time she has heard similar stories from riders, adding that most of them were either jobless or waiting for their credit to be cleared so that they could get some cash.
She also said that the video was meant to show the public the struggles many are going through and hoped that help would be given to those in need.
“For me, it’s not wrong to be kind towards others with what we have and we shouldn’t judge them too quickly. Who knows our family members may go through the same and we hope there’s someone who would help us,” she said.
