University rules are created to ensure students maintain decorum while on campus grounds, but of course, there are rules that are bound to raise eyebrows.
A public university in Kedah has recently caught the attention of netizens with its bizarre rule on students of the opposite gender being inside the same vehicle.

RM30 fine for students of opposite gender inside same car
According to a post on the Malaysian subreddit, it showed a list of rules given to students at a public university in Kedah concerning their vehicles.
While most of them seemed benign, there was one which stood out from the rest, where it stated about a fine being issued to students of the opposite gender getting caught sitting inside the same car.

I understand and agree that the university reserves the right to impose a penalty amount of RM30.
“If the vehicle is used to carry members of the opposite sex (unmarried), the vehicle registration certificate can be cancelled,” the rule reads.
According to the OP, the said university is University Utara Malaysia (UUM) in Sintok, Kedah.

Netizens react towards rule
The post, which garnered more than 800 likes, saw netizens expressing incredulity towards the rule.
Some said that the rule was illogical as there could be instances where the driver and passenger(s) could be siblings or family members.

Others joked that becoming a homosexual was probably the best way to circumvent the ridiculous rule.

Some also said that the university’s ruling on people of the opposite gender being punished for sitting in the same car was a testament to the lack of critical thinking among Malaysian universities.

One opined that this was probably the university’s method in preventing another ‘Axia couple’ incident from happening.

What do you think of the rule? Is it reasonable or illogical? Let us know in the comments!
