Bring Gardenia back home

A Sabahan netizen, @padilverse, uploaded a video on TikTok sharing the brief 18-hour journey to Kuala Lumpur with friends, and how they bought a special offer suitcase before returning to Sabah, specifically to fill it with Gardenia bread.

According to the video, the netizen purchased a large quantity of the corn-flavored Gardenia bread from a convenience store inside the airport, explaining that this particular bread is extremely rare in Sabah.

“Do you know why Sabahans love this bread so much? It’s because you can hardly find it locally, and even if a store does sell it, the price is usually very high. Buying the bread made us very happy, and now we can return to Sabah,” he said.

In the video, it seems the netizen was on a brief 2-day, 1-night trip, traveling here specifically to buy the bread along with enjoying a short visit.

However, the netizen later clarified that the trip was made on a whim due to mistakenly purchasing flight tickets last month, so the bread buying was an opportunistic use of the journey.

Many netizens, especially those from Sabah, commented on the difficulty of finding Gardenia bread in East Malaysia. One person mentioned that they always buy hundreds of ringgit worth of Gardenia bread when returning to Tawau, yet it still feels insufficient.
