Mamak has always been the go-to restaurant for every Malaysian because of its convenience and affordability.
Recently, a Malaysian TikToker stirred controversy by making allegations against Mamak restaurants, capturing netizens attention and even prompting Presma to file a report in response.
However, despite the original video being deleted, its content is still being shared around on social media.
“Don’t eat at Mamak restaurant.”
Reshared by a TikTok user, @ramumala7587, in the video the woman alleges that Mamak restaurants are unhygienic with some unusual claims, leaving some netizens stunned.
These are the four claims made by the woman, asserting that such incidents have occurred in certain Mamak restaurants.
- Biryani rice wrapped in men’s underwear
She asserted that this incident took place at a Mamak restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, stating that a person witnessed the restaurant using underwear to wrap the biryani pot.
- Toyol urine in the food
She mentioned that a customer witnessed a Toyol (supernatural being in Malay folklore) urinating in the curry pot at the restaurant.
- Bathwater used to make curry broth
The woman also said an individual working at a Mamak restaurant in Perak alleged that the restaurant owner uses water from bath storage to prepare curry broth.
- Frozen feces in the roti canai gravy
She reported learning about this from an anonymous man, who claimed to have found frozen feces in the curry served at the restaurant.
In the two-minute-long video, the woman did not mention the specific location and details of when and where this incident occurred.
Presma is displeased with the allegations and has decided to take matters into their own hands.
Presma files police report
Following this issue, The Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) has filed a police report regarding allegations made by the woman.
According to Harian Metro, Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan mentioned that the claims made by the woman as baseless and malicious.
“We do not know what his intentions are. For me, this is an outrageous accusation, and we will pursue legal action even if he deletes the video. There is no room for us to withdraw the police report.” he said.
Additionally, he mentioned that almost 100 police reports have been filed by Presma members across Malaysia.
He emphasized the necessity of a thorough investigation into the accusation, as it undermines the credibility of Mamak restaurant owners and involves sensitivities matters.
