While those eye-catching stationeries might make your kids jump for joy, not every glittery pen or trendy tool is a safe bet.
A Malaysian teacher just found out that one of her 11-year-old students brought a seriously surprising item to class – a Knife Pen Cutter.
What’s more shocking? The student casually mentioned that its purpose was to cut hands.

This chilling discovery unfolded during a math class
Taking to her TikTok account, @nisanurazmina, spilled the beans on a shocking discovery.
This revelation unfolded during a routine math class taught by her husband, when a student shared that his supposed pen was not actually a pen—it was a knife pen cutter.
A “Knife Pen Cutter” is a pen that also works as a small cutting tool with a retractable or foldable blade, useful for tasks like opening packages and trimming paper.

Taken aback by the discovery that the seemingly innocent item was a knife, then they asked the student about its purpose, to which he casually responded, ‘To cut hands.’
“It’s pretty disturbing that a fifth-grader is already thinking about stuff like this,” the teacher said, sounding all concerned and totally surprised.
Also, the teacher noted that her intention is not to place blame on the student’s parents, and they will address that separately.
“However, I just want to remind every parent to regularly check their children’s bags. At least, we all know that the things our children bring to school are safe.” the teacher said in the video.

This video has since racked up 3.2 million views at the time of writing, along with thousands of comments from netizens expressing serious concerns about the safety of children.
Netizen concerns for child safety
In the comment section, many netizens agreed that using a knife pen is unsafe, especially for young children.
“This is a sticker-cutting knife… my child has one, received it with stickers… but I immediately disposed of it… dangerous.”

“That’s a sticker-cutting pen. It’s quite dangerous for children.”

“It’s dangerous. It will be a problem if the knife pen is misused.”

“Really dangerous.”

“I also wanted to buy it the other day, but then I reconsidered because I was afraid that kids might think it’s just a pen… so, I canceled the plan for many kids.”

So let’s use this wake-up call to have some laid-back chats about keeping schools safe, getting parents more involved, and dealing with the stuff our kids are going through.
If we want a safe and cozy space for our little ones, being aware as a team and taking action together is the way to go.
