For many couples, welcoming a child after years of waiting is nothing short of a miracle. After 11 years of marriage, Linda and her husband were finally blessed with a daughter.

Today, she sells homemade desserts full-time with every cake, pudding, and sweet treat made with one purpose in mind: to provide for the daughter she once thought she may never have.

An unexpected start

Linda shared that she never initially dreamed of becoming a dessert seller. In fact, baking was not even a passion of hers.

Her business journey began unexpectedly when she prepared desserts for her daughter’s birthday celebration, making treats such as moist chocolate cake and pudding for guests.

Among those who attended were her husband’s colleagues, who were immediately impressed after tasting her desserts.

“They told me the desserts were really good and asked why I wasn’t selling them. That was where everything began.”

Encouraged by the compliments, Linda decided to give it a shot. What began as a casual suggestion soon blossomed into the business she now runs full-time.

Left her job to care for ‘miracle’ baby

Before starting her dessert business, Linda was working full-time and had previously tried her hand at another business venture.

At the time, she and her husband were juggling work, commitments, and trying to build a stable future together. Unfortunately, the business venture did not work out.

In the midst of the disappointment, she received a piece of life-changing news she never expected after more than a decade of waiting.

“After 11 years of marriage, we were finally blessed with our daughter. I never expected it.

“Given how long I had waited for my child, I decided to step away from work entirely to care for my daughter myself,” she said.

However, becoming a stay-at-home mother meant Linda no longer had a stable income of her own. While her husband continued working, household commitments remained high, and surviving solely on her husband’s income quickly became difficult.

“When I stopped working, I no longer had income. I felt lost and did not know what to do.”

Linda shared that it was an emotionally overwhelming period as she struggled to figure out how she could continue contributing financially while caring for her daughter.

Found her way out through baking

Feeling uncertain about her future, Linda said she turned to her faith and asked God to show her guidance.

Not long after, her dessert business began taking shape and she started accepting orders from home during weekdays before gradually expanding into physical weekend sales.

Now, Linda operates her business online from home during the week and sets up her dessert stall every Friday and Saturday.

Though she describes her earnings as “cukup-cukup makan” (just enough to get by), she said she is deeply grateful for the support she received.

“Some customers wait for the weekend just to come find me. Others discover me through social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram before visiting my stall to support me.

“Feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, with many customers often saying my desserts suit their taste perfectly. Once they try it, they keep coming back for more.”

‘It’s all for my daughter’

For Linda, the dessert business is more than just a side hustle or income stream. It is her way of providing for the daughter she once thought she might never have.

“While the business may not generate huge profits, it helps cover my daily commitments and provides much-needed support for the family.

“Though there’s not much left, but at least it helps us survive,” she said.

Reflecting on her journey, Linda said she sees both her daughter and the hardships that followed as part of God’s greater plan for her family.

“My daughter is a blessing, but at the same time, our life dropped drastically financially.

“Maybe God is testing us now because He wants to give us more in the future.”

Despite the uncertainty, Linda says she and her husband will keep pushing forward and trust that everything will work out for them.
