In recent times, there have been countless stories of people getting ‘burnt’ unexpectedly in the form of food items being sold to them at ridiculous prices.
This time, a netizen took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask whether was it “logical” for a stall to charge him RM30 for a single piece of tiger prawn.
M’sian shocked by RM30 tiger prawn
In the X post by the netizen named Edruce, he shared a photo of the lunch he had yesterday (Jan 30) at a stall located at the Pantai Dalam area in KL.
Based on the photo, his meal consisted of rice, one piece of tiger prawn, a fried egg, and some gravy drizzled on the rice. Together with the drink, the meal cost him a total of RM37.
However, what shocked him the most was that the tiger prawn alone cost him RM30, something which he struggled to wrap his head around.
The prawn alone was RM30. Is this logical? All in it’s RM37 together with the drink. I googled (the price) tiger/giant freshwater prawns and it’s RM40 per kg. I don’t know whether is this inflation or what.
Mixed reactions
In the comment section, netizens had differing views on Edruce’s gripe about the RM30 tiger prawn.
Some slammed the stall for taking advantage of customers to make a profit by charging such a ridiculous price.
One netizen disagreed, saying that a kilogram of giant freshwater prawns now costs around RM80-RM120. He also showed a photo of two giant freshwater prawns, adding that it was priced at RM45/RM40 per piece before it was cooked.
Another asked Edruce why he didn’t ask about the price before ordering, to which he replied by saying that he thought it was around RM15-RM20. He also claimed that there wasn’t a pricing list displayed at the stall.
