What started as a random moment during a school sports rehearsal has now turned into a viral TikTok clip that’s winning the hearts of Malaysians online.
A Malaysian student recently shared a video of himself performing Michael Jackson-inspired dance moves on a school field in front of a crowd of students and teachers on his TikTok account.
In the video, 15-year-old Yoshwein Kumaran could be seen confidently pulling off dance moves to the iconic song Billie Jean, followed by several other Michael Jackson’s signature steps.
His schoolmates and teachers were seen cheering and clapping for him throughout the performance.
In the caption, he admitted that the performance wasn’t exactly planned.
“Danced in front of the whole school. I couldn’t dance well because it was hard to dance on the grass.
“I was really nervous since it was my first time performing in high school. It happened unexpectedly, and I didn’t even practice.”
The clip has since garnered more than 296k views and 18.7k likes at the time of writing, with many netizens praising both his confidence and impressive dance moves.

“Just enjoying the moment”
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Yoshwein shared how the unexpected performance came about during his school’s Rumah Sukan Barisan rehearsal.
I was just standing with my friends when they suddenly asked me to dance. They know that I enjoy dancing and can do some Michael Jackson moves, so they encouraged me to perform.”
At first, he said he only intended to do a few simple dance steps for fun. However, things escalated quickly when people around him started paying attention.
“One of the teachers noticed me and told me to dance again, even better this time. Then the music teacher played a Michael Jackson song, and I gave my full energy while dancing.”
The performance soon became the centre of attention on the school field, with students loudly cheering and clapping along as he danced to Billie Jean and performed several classic Michael Jackson-style moves despite dancing on grass.
According to Yoshwein, the video was actually recorded by his teacher before he later uploaded it onto TikTok.
“I honestly didn’t expect it to get so much attention. I was just enjoying the moment and having fun with my friends.”
Many netizens also flooded the comments section with supportive and wholesome reactions after watching the clip.
Has been learning under a dance master
Yoshwein also shared that he has been learning dance under the guidance of a dance master, who helped him improve his techniques and performance style.
“I’ve been practising and improving under his guidance, especially in Michael Jackson-style dancing. I’m really grateful for his support and encouragement.”
