According to Oh! Media, this change comes in the wake of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s salary increase announcement for public servants, prompting the in-laws to request an additional RM4,000.

Originally, the groom-to-be, who is employed in the public sector, had agreed to a dowry of RM14,000 for his upcoming marriage in December 2024. However, the sudden hike to RM18,000 has thrown him into a state of distress.

I work as a public servant. I am engaged and will be getting married in December.

Previously, my future in-laws requested RM14,000 for the dowry, which I agreed to. After the Prime Minister announced a salary increase, they requested the dowry be raised to RM18,000.
