A lemang seller got the shock of their life when a customer called to say, “Why are there nails in my lemang!”
This all went down on TikTok, where the seller, @ummu.saifullah, posted a video that went viral.
His customer found about a handful of iron nails, about 50mm long, hiding inside the bamboo of the lemang.
Some of these sneaky nails had even made their way into the lemang itself.
The seller was totally baffled. He said he was super careful, cleaning the bamboo and doing everything by themselves from start to finish.
When the customer called just 10 minutes after buying the lemang, the seller was like, “Nails? What nails? I did everything myself!”
Luckily, the customer hadn’t eaten any part of the lemang with nails in it.
They noticed something was off when they went to cut the bottom part.
Seller’s swift response to the unexpected mix-up
The seller was super thankful that the customer told him right away and quickly swapped the lemang for a fresh one, since he always make a few extras.
The mystery of how those nails got in there was solved when the seller remembered using some extra bamboo from their kid’s play area. Turns out, that bamboo might have been a secret nail storage!
The seller had a good laugh, replaced the lemang for the customer with a fresh one, and now it’s a story that’s got over 370,700 views, 5,356 likes, and 826 shares on TikTok.
Seeing that this was the seller’s mistake, one netizen commented: “Lucky that the customer told you. If it was someone else, they might have made it go viral first before discussing, which would have been bad…”
To which the seller replies:
“Ah, it’s a good thing the person who bought the lemang is my student. They were surprised to find nails in it, but I was even more surprised because I take my cooking seriously—it’s not just a hobby for me. I usually only make 7 sticks of lemang and always make sure they’re top quality. Who would have guessed I’d accidentally use some bamboo that my kid had been playing with?”
