Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said police were alerted of the incident when a report was lodged by a clerk at the Accountability Office (PTJ) of the Ayer Keroh Court Complex last Tuesday (Aug 29).
“The clerk inspected the premises and found signs of a break-in at the office window. A team of officers from the Melaka Tengah District Police Headquarters’ (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division later arrested a suspicious man at the premise at 12.30pm yesterday (Sept 7).
“The suspect later confessed to stealing RM835 from the office safe and breaking into the café. He also admitted to using the money for personal use, including purchasing alcohol,” he said.
Urine tests showed that the suspect tested negative for drugs and the case is being probed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for trespassing.
