M’sian Says MRT Delay Slip Didn’t Save Her From Being Marked Late, HR Tells Her To Leave Home Earlier

Shocker.
A Malaysian office worker recently took to social media to share her frustration after being marked late to work despite providing an official MRT delay slip.

According to her post, she encountered an MRT breakdown on her way to work and, recalling advice she saw online, went to the station counter to get an official delay slip.

She thought this proof would prevent deductions from her attendance bonus. However, when she submitted it to HR, she was told:

We’ll keep this for record purposes, but today you’ll still be marked as late.”

The HR staff even suggested she “leave home earlier” next time, adding that they also take the MRT but never arrive late.

The employee said she was baffled, writing: “If I knew the MRT would break down, would I still choose to be late? Isn’t a delay something unexpected?”

Later that same day, she claimed HR sent a group announcement stating that employees with a delay slip wouldn’t have their bonus deducted — but only once per month, leading her to question the company’s consistency.

She also pointed out that MRT disruptions happen almost monthly, asking: “Are we supposed to leave earlier every single day?”

Netizens chime in

Some sympathised with the OP, saying the company’s stance was unreasonable, while others urged her to look for a healthier work environment.

“Leave this company as soon as possible. Wishing you happiness.”

Some netizens advised the worker to refer to the labour law to protect their rights.
