A gold shop in Jalan Langgar, Kedah, became the scene of a dramatic heist on Sunday when a man armed with a firearm and an ax robbed the store of jewellery estimated to be worth around RM178,000.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 5 pm, has left the local community in shock.
A robber’s unusual approach: ‘Hi”
According to the Acting Chief of Police for the Kota Setar District, Superintendent Syed Basri Syed Ali, the suspect, described as stout and around 170 centimetres tall, entered the shop alone.
Dressed in a white helmet, blue jacket, and black trousers, and carrying a badminton bag, the suspect initially greeted the female worker with a ‘hi’ before proceeding with the robbery.

The Superintendent revealed that the suspect placed the bag on the floor and withdrew a ‘pump gun’, pointing it at the store employee.
In a further menacing act, he then took an ax from the bag and broke the glass of the exhibition table to access the jewellery.
The Kota Setar District Control Center received a distress call at about 5.10 pm from the complainant, believed to be the daughter of the gold shop owner, shortly after the incident, reported Sinar Harian.
She informed the authorities about the robbery and described the weapons used by the suspect.
