Since the launch of the BUDI95 targeted fuel subsidy, the price of RON95 petrol has dropped to RM1.99 per litre for eligible Malaysians.
While the move was meant to ease the rakyat’s burden, it has also sparked confusion among motorists who are still trying to calculate how much they need to spend to fill up their tanks.
“Why can’t I fill up with RM60”
Recently, a woman took to social media to share her frustration after failing to fill up her Perodua Bezza despite spending RM60. In her post, she wrote:
BUDI95? Bezza full tank RM60. My fuel gauge had 2 bars left, but after filling RM40 it showed RM52 and still wasn’t full. Like what? What is the government trying to do here? Can anyone explain?”

Her complaint quickly gained attention, with many Malaysians expressing the same confusion.
However, one netizen jumped in to provide a detailed explanation and pointed out that the woman’s calculation was off.
Wrong calculation
The netizen explained that the Bezza’s full tank capacity is 36 litres, which at the new subsidised rate of RM1.99 comes up to RM71.64.
When she pumped RM40, she only received about 20 litres of fuel, which was not enough to reach a full tank.

Since the Bezza’s gauge has eight bars and each bar represents around 4.5 litres, having two bars left meant that she already had about nine litres in the tank.
This meant that instead of requiring RM60, she actually needed just over RM50 to top up her car from that point.
