M’sian Police Officer Who Rammed Into 17yo Student With Car Charged With Murder

No plea was recorded from the accused.
A senior police officer who held the rank of deputy superintendent has been formally charged with murder at the Ipoh magistrate’s court today (Dec 18).

NST reported that the charge was read out to 44-year-old Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak before Magistrate S. Punitha. However, no plea was recorded from him as the case was deemed to be under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Mohd Nazri was charged with murdering 17-year-old Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie in Jalan Taman Jati 1 near SMK Jati, Meru between 12.05pm and 12.40pm on Dec 15.

In court, he appeared calm when the charge was read out but none of his family members were present to offer support.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, where it carries the death penalty or a jail term of between 30 and 40 years with not less than 12 cane strokes, if found guilty.

In the highly publicised case which has outraged and shocked many Malaysians, Muhammad Zaharif was returning home from school when he got into an altercation with Mohd Nazri, who was angry over him revving his motorcycle.

He then allegedly chased the teen for a kilometer before ramming into him from behind with his car, causing Muhammad Zaharif to fall and be dragged for five metres before dying at the scene.

A post-mortem examination carried out at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) later found that Muhammad Zaharif suffered chest and abdomen injuries, leading to his demise. Mohd Nazri was subsequently nabbed on the same day of the incident.

The court has set Feb 7 next year for mention pending chemical reports.
