A netizen recently sparked discussion online after claiming that Malaysia is “one of the few countries where you can be broke and still eat well”.
In the post, the user pointed out that affordable meals like nasi campur for RM6, roti canai with teh tarik for RM3.50, and char kuey teow for RM8 are still widely available.

They added that in many developed countries, similar meals could cost four to five times more while not tasting as good.
According to the netizen, despite the various challenges Malaysians face, food accessibility remains something that should not be taken for granted.
Not everyone agrees
However, not all netizens shared the same sentiment.
One commenter argued that Malaysia is actually expensive when compared to other Asian countries, especially when factoring in median income and food prices.
They added that countries like Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore offer cheaper, healthier, and more diverse food options.
Another user also questioned where such low prices could still be found, saying that in Kuala Lumpur, nasi campur typically starts from RM9, while roti canai with teh tarik costs at least RM5.
