A 25-year-old woman has found herself in a dilemma after her mother asked her to end her eight-year relationship with her boyfriend because of his income.
According to mStar, the story first surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) when the woman shared how her mother worried she would face financial difficulties if she married a man earning only RM3,000 a month.
‘He’s not rich, but he works hard & prays’
According to the woman, her boyfriend is a hardworking man who frequently does overtime and never neglects his prayers.
My mum keeps telling me to leave him because he’s not from a wealthy family. She doesn’t want me to suffer after marriage.

“But he’s not poor either. He works hard and earns RM3,000. Is that so little? He also takes care of his prayers. I feel it’s unfair to leave him just because my mum can’t see his good side,” she wrote.
The woman added that her mother kept bringing up the issue even though she and her boyfriend had no immediate plans to get married, as they wanted to focus on financial stability first.
Wants a stable future before marriage
She explained that both she and her boyfriend are both 25 and want to build a stable future before settling down.
“He’s always been generous. When we go out, I never have to pay a single cent. Sometimes I buy him small things like ice cream, but that’s about it. I’m not a gold-digger. We’re just starting our lives,” she added.
The repeated pressure from her mother has left her feeling torn as she doesn’t want to leave her boyfriend but also doesn’t want her mother to resent him.
