A Malaysian woman was left deeply moved after a cashier used her own money to cover the remaining RM18 for her groceries.
The woman, Eva Asheeny, shared the heartwarming encounter on Threads.
RM100 MyKad credit was not enough
Eva said she had visited a 99 Speedmart to purchase essentials for her daughter, including milk, diapers, bread and instant noodles.
She planned to pay for everything using the RM100 credit in her MyKad.
At the last minute, Eva realised that her daughter had outgrown her XL diapers and needed size XXL instead.
However, the original brand was not covered by the credit, so she switched to another eligible brand.
Once everything was scanned, her total came to RM118.
As Eva had not brought additional cash, she asked the cashier to remove two cheaper items from her purchase.
She was then told that the supervisor was unavailable and that removing the items would take some time.
Cashier stepped in to pay the RM18
Another cashier named Nurul noticed what was happening and offered to pay the remaining balance.
The cashier serving Eva even clarified that the amount was RM18 and not RM1.80, but Nurul still agreed to cover it.
Eva immediately promised to return the money, but Nurul refused to accept repayment.
“Just pray that I do well in life,” Nurul told her.
Eva said she nearly cried upon hearing this, especially as the groceries were meant for her daughter.
She later praised Nurul for helping without expecting anything in return and described the moment as a reminder that kindness has no race.
Returned to thank Nurul days later
Eva initially left without taking a photograph of Nurul, but she did not forget the cashier’s kindness.
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Eva said she later returned to the store with her family to personally thank Nurul and present her with a small gift.
Eva also shared a photograph of their reunion and revealed the cashier’s full name as Nurul Syakirah.
According to Eva, Nurul became emotional during their conversation and said that helping people had always been part of her life.
Nurul reportedly also assists people in need, including those stranded by the roadside, without expecting anything in return.
