M’sian Motorcyclist Gets Struck By Lightning And Dies While On The Way To Work

Malaysia is currently going through a season of turbulent weather, where it’s hot and sunny at one moment before it gives way to lightning and torrential rains the next.

Unfortunately for one motorcyclist, he lost his life after he was struck by lightning while on the way to work.

Motorcyclist gets struck by lightning and dies

According to NST, the unfortunate incident took place in Banting on Tuesday (May 2) along the road in Kampung Seri Cheeding.

Just as he was passing through the road from the Rimbayu Bridge to the Seri Cheeding Tea Plantation, he was suddenly struck by lightning at around 6.20pm before falling off his motorcycle and losing consciousness.

When passersby saw his collapsed body, they quickly lifted him to the side of the road and called MERS 999 and an ambulance.

Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics who were deployed to the scene.

Classified as sudden death

In a statement by Kuala Langat police chief Superintendent Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Saleh, he said the 50-year-old victim was making his way to his workplace, a factory located in in Bandar Mahkota Banting.

He added that burn marks and bruises were found on the right side of his neck and his abdomen and thigh respectively caused by the lightning strike, as well as injuries on his chin and knees as a result from falling off the motorcycle.

Additionally, two holes were also found “punched into” the road where the incident took place.

The case has since been classified as sudden death after the autopsy report found that the victim’s cause of death was consistent with that of a lightning strike.
