When it comes to buying stuff, everyone’s wary of expiry dates. Recently, a Malaysian model called out a store for selling expired food products.

Lishalliny Kanaran revealed a concerning incident she encountered at a 7-Eleven store in Sentul, exposing the sale of expired chocolates.

During Christmas Eve celebrations with her family, she went to the 7-Eleven store at Maxim Citylights Condominium in Sentul to buy chocolates for her nieces.

However, things took an unexpected turn when she noticed something off about the chocolate wrappers. Upon checking, she found that some of the chocolates had expired back in September and August.

Staff allegedly dismissed concerns

When Lishalliny approached the cashier with her concerns, she was allegedly ignored and the latter didn’t show any signs of urgency in addressing the issue.

It took several attempts before the cashier eventually acknowledged that the chocolates had indeed expired.

When I asked him to check for the third time, he confirmed it had expired but brushed it off by saying, ‘Alaa…accidentally lah!’

As Lishalliny kept asking him questions, she randomly picked another pack of chocolate from a different aisle, only to find out that it had also expired.

To her shock, the cashier arrogantly told her that the manager wasn’t around and even challenged her to make the issue go viral when she told him she had the intention to do so.

In a brief conversation with WeirdKaya, Lishalliny revealed that during the recording, the cashier showed no intention to rectify the issue, causing her to leave without making a purchase.

Two of 7-eleven's staff members were not concerned much about the expiration issue that was brought by the customer.

She also added that 7-Eleven Malaysia had reached out to her on Instagram, expressing concern and a commitment to investigate the issue. They also assured her that they would contact the store manager promptly and took her contact details for further updates.

7-Eleven Malaysia’s responds

7-Eleven Malaysia responded to Lishalliny’s concern by commenting on the respective TikTok video: “We understand that this is a serious concern and acknowledge the misconduct of our staff. We have engaged with all parties involved, particularly the affected individual.”

“Since then, we have double-checked and confirmed with all our stores to ensure all expired stocks are removed. We will also take stern action against staff members who do not follow the SOPs that have been set.” they further explained.

They apologized for the matter and expressed their commitment to doing better.

As it’s Christmas Eve, while celebrating with my family, I went to @7-ELEVEn @7-Eleven Malaysia at Maxim Citylights Condominium at Sentul to buy chocolates for my nieces who I was visiting. While picking snacks, I noticed the chocolate wrappers were unusually crumpled, and upon checking the expiry date, I found one expired in September. Assuming it was an oversight, I picked another, only to find it expired in August!! I approached the cashier, who ignored my concern, and of all he wasn’t even surprised. I asked him to check again, unsure if I misread the manufacturing date. I mean, isn’t it better to clarify first? But no, he didn’t even acknowledge me. The third time I asked him to check, and he confirmed it was expired. He then tried to involve his female coworker, who conveniently busied herself when I questioned them. To my surprise, he casually said, “alaa, accidentally la.” While I was asking him, I randomly picked another chocolate from another section, and it was expired, again! All were displayed at the front, not the back. If it was unintentional like he said, why are all the expired ones at the front? It seems like they want to clear their stock by selling expired items first. When I confronted him about that, he stayed silent, and she continued acting busy. When I requested to speak to the manager, he arrogantly said, “manager sudah balik, tidur la.” I suggested involving higher authorities, or I may need to take this to social media and he responded with “kasi viral la” using hand gestures. The AUDACITY to be arrogant and avoid accountability. So, those who may not be literate supposed to jeopardize their children’s safety when buying expired edible items? Is this the situation we’re dealing with? I believe this issue needs to be addressed seriously @KKMalaysia 🇲🇾 #viral #viralmalaysia #viraltiktok #fyp #fypppp #worldofbuzz #malaysianupdate #malaysiantiktok #7eleven #7elevenmalaysia #maximcitylights #maximcitylightsentul #malaysiatiktok #viraltiktok
