A netizen recently took to social media to share a dilemma her family’s facing after her father admitted that he wished to get back together with his former wife.
However, the joy of a reunion is now being obstructed by her father’s lover, who demanded for a huge sum of money to be paid out as “compensation”.
Divorced for 15 years
In the anonymous confession, the OP wrote that her parents were divorced for 15 years but maintained a cordial relationship throughout.
The OP added that she had always hoped for her parents to reconcile while growing up but never dared to ask why they divorced in the first place.
Got closer
That spark of hope got stronger when the OP’s parents began getting closer for the past two years by having meals together, chatting regularly, and looking out for each other.
At one point, the OP’s mother told her ex-husband that if they still had feelings for each other, there was no reason they couldn’t start over.
However, there was a problem.
3rd person involved
The OP wrote that she came to discover that during her parents’ divorce, her father had been seeing another woman, who was married and had children of her own. The other woman was also aware that the OP’s father was a divorcee.
On top of that, he had been providing financially for both the woman and her children’s needs, making them essentially dependent on him.
However, the OP’s father said he got together with the woman not because he loved her and admitted he had always loved his ex-wife all along.
When he told his ex-wife that he wished to reconcile with her, she had but one condition: cut off all ties with the other woman.
Demanded ‘breakup fee’
This proved to be easier said than done when the OP’s father told his lover that he was terminating the relationship as he had no feelings for her.
As expected, the woman didn’t take news well and even demanded that he pay her a large sum of money as “compensation” if he truly wanted to leave her.
To make matters worse, her family also threatened to find people to “deal” with the OP’s father if he walked away.
This left the OP feeling torn and worried at the same time for her estranged parents, whom she’d been waiting for years to see them mend things.
“On one hand is my mother, who after waiting so many years, was finally willing to give my father another chance. But on the other hand, I’m genuinely worried for my father’s safety as I’m unsure whether the threats are real.
“Should I tell him to just give the money to the other woman or not be involved in the situation at all? I don’t dare let my mother know too much because I’m afraid she’ll give up on reconciling with my father if she learns the full story.”
