To protect his valuable toy collection, a Malaysian man put a price tag on each of his collectables so that he can charge for monetary compensation if someone breaks them during Raya.
During the festive period of Eid, a time when Muslims traditionally visit family and friends to celebrate the end of Ramadan, Azreen Ismail has devised a unique strategy to protect his valuable model collection from potential harm caused by visiting children.
The innovative approach was highlighted in a recent TikTok video posted by the collector, known as yen_orochi.
Encourage parents to monitor their children
In the video, he explained his reasoning:
“To prevent the children visiting during Eid from damaging my collection, I’ve tagged the models with their prices. One is tagged at RM1,600, another at RM1.700, so that the parents will be vigilant.”
By displaying the monetary value of each model, he aims to encourage parents to monitor their children more closely, thereby avoiding any careless handling of his prized possessions.
“This is my property, and I have every right to do this,” he stated in his video.
Relatives who visit are understanding
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Azreen Ismail explained that he came up with this idea while he was cleaning his house for Hari Raya.
“I immediately asked my wife to film the video, but I never expected it to go viral.”
He clarified that he had never personally experienced someone breaking his collection before but has seen many videos about it.
“All my relatives who visit are understanding enough; they all know I am fun and playful,” Azreen said.
Support from the internet
The tactic has garnered support from the online community, with some suggesting further measures such as placing QR codes to facilitate payment should damage occur.
Others have even recommended installing cameras to provide evidence if disputes arise over responsibility for any damage.
“Should add: once broken, considered sold.”
“Very good, put a higher price as now we need to pay SST.”
“Good idea; otherwise, there will always be parents who say it’s normal for kids (to play and touch things without permission).”
“Record their reaction when they see this!”
