Malaysia is a land that is blessed with an abundance of delicious food for us to enjoy and choose from. But sometimes, that gastronomic experience is spoilt by the exorbitant prices that come with it.
A man was left feeling understandably cheated by a vendor who charged him RM8 for a meal which consisted of only plain rice and ikan bilis (anchovies).
Charged RM8 for rice and ikan bilis
In a post which was originally posted by a man named Faiz SyauQi but was later shared by another Facebook page, he expressed his shock and disappointment over the amount he had to pay for his meal.

Based on the photo, his meal basically consisted of rice with a handful of ikan bilis sprinkled on it. The price? A shocking RM8!
Needless to say, Faiz wasn’t pleased with it and made his feelings known in the caption:
I never expected the vendor to give me so much ikan bilis and then charge me such a high price for it. It’s so outrageous that it reminds of prices in Europe!
“Although I’ve already paid for it, I want to warn others not to be a victim of vendors looking to make excessive profits,” he wrote.
Too expensive or not?
In the comment section, there were a handful of netizens who were flabbergasted by the RM8 price and remarked how much more they could get with the same amount.
‘This price can get a plate of nasi kandar with chicken, onions, and mixed curry sauces.’

‘Did this come from a goldfish?’

On the other hand, some argued that ikan bilis was never cheap to begin with, especially those which had already been washed and cooked for consumption.
