M’sian Man Charged RM18 For 2 Pieces Of Roti Canai, Netizens Joke That It’s ‘Food For The Rich’

Roti canai is a local favorite that’s known not only for its delectable taste, but also how affordable it is for Malaysians looking to have a simple meal. However, its prices have been increasing recently due to inflation.

A young man recently took to Facebook to show how much he was charged for two pieces of roti canai, a price which made the jaws of netizens drop.

In the Facebook post by Hairil Aien, he posted several photos of him having a meal along with a friend.

Aside from the roti canai, he also ordered a piece of roti telur, a plate of nasi lemak, and three additional bowls of curry.

While it looked like an ordinary meal on the surface, the prices definitely didn’t reflect it at all.

According to the receipt, the nasi lemak was priced at RM10, the roti telur at RM11, and the bowls of curry at RM3 each.

However, the real shocker was the roti canai, where it cost a staggering RM9 per piece, thus bringing the total bill to RM45.

While the post didn’t disclose the location, a quick Google check by WeirdKaya found that the restaurant is located at First World Hotel in Genting Highlands.

Speaking to WeirdKaya, Hairil said he wasn’t too shocked by the prices as he was already aware of it before placing the order.

Surprisingly, Hairil also said that this incident hasn’t deterred him from visiting the place again, adding that such prices at Genting Highlands is “normal”.

In the comment section, netizens were shocked by the amount and wondered what kind of ingredients were used to make the roti canai.

A netizen shared that such prices were common in Genting Highlands, where he once came across a roti canai which was sold for RM14.
