A man tried to end his own life in a bloody fashion after he allegedly strangled his wife to death following a verbal argument.
NST reported that the incident took place at the couple’s rented room in a Jalan Pantai shophouse in Kota Kinabalu at around 5.30am today.
Slits own throat after strangling wife
According to Kota Kinabalu district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah, he said a neighbour was alarmed to hear a heated argument before the victim’s husband knocked on the door and told him to leave the premises at 5am.
The Star reported that police were contacted at 8am and rushed to the scene, where they found the victim, a woman in her 20s, lying on the ground while her husband was unconscious with slash wounds to his neck, suggesting a suicide attempt.
They also found bruises on the victim’s neck believed to have been caused by strangulation, as well as injuries to her forehead.
Initial investigations found that the couple were living together in the rental room. We also believe that the incident was caused by a marital conflict based on the neighbour’s testimony.
“We also found that the victim was a housewife while the suspect worked at a restaurant nearby,” he said.
Investigations underway
Mohd Zaidi said the victim’s body was sent for an autopsy while the suspect is currently under police watch and receiving medical treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
