In yet another horrific case of innocent children being subjected to rape by their own fathers, a man in Johor was handed a lengthy jail sentence and more than 200 cane strokes for his crime.
NST reported that the accused, a 53-year-old cleaner, was slapped with 30 charges at the Sessions Court yesterday (Aug 14) for raping and sexually assaulting his daughters aged 12 and 15 over the course of six years, where one of them became pregnant as a result.

According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly committed the acts since 2017 when one of his daughters was only 10, with the recent incident taking place on July 4 at two different locations in Jeram and Bakri.
A police report was later lodged against him by a medical officer at the Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah Muar when one of the victims, who complained of chest pains, was found to be pregnant.
The accused pleaded guilty to a total of 30 charges, where 19 was for rape and 11 for outraging the modesty of his daughters. It took the court interpreter close to an hour to read out all of the charges.
The charges were framed under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum imprisonment of and 10 strokes.
He was also charged under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which is punishable under Section 14 and read together with Section 16 (1) of the same act, which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping.
Judge Abu Bakar Manat ordered the accused serve his prison sentence to be carried out concurrently starting from the date of his arrest on July 10, while the whipping will be carried out separately, leading a total of 702 years in jail and 234 strokes.
However, he will only serve only 42 years and caned a maximum of 24 strokes as allowed under Section 288 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
‘I accept my punishment’
After handing out the sentence, Judge Abu Bakar Manat told the accused that his crimes were serious and hoped that he will learn his lesson and repent.
In response, the accused said,” I accept the punishment for my actions.”
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Munir while the accused was unrepresented.
