M’sian Man Pretends To Be Army Officer Just To Get Free Food

He's potentially facing 'free' jail time too.
Getting free food through no effort of your own is undoubtedly a very tempting idea, and there are some who would stop at nothing just to fulfil this ‘dream’.

A local man’s efforts to secure a supply of free food for himself was foiled after a sharp-eyed army personnel noticed something was off with the army uniform he was wearing and subsequently discovered his devious plan.

According to Sinar Harian, the imposter’s attempt at passing himself as an army officer was foiled at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) in Ipoh on Wednesday (Jul 10).

Ironically, it was the uniform that he was wearing which betrayed him after a military personnel, who was also present, noticed that he was wearing it incorrectly.

When approached by the military personnel and asked to produce his military identification card, all the man could show was his Malaysian IC.

Ipoh district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said a police report was later lodged by the military personnel, leading to the man’s arrest.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect wore the military uniform in the hospital to attract attention and get free food.

“Police also seized several pieces of evidence, including a pair of green digital camouflage uniform, a pair of black tactical boots, a T-shirt, and a black belt with a metal buckle.

“The suspect later told police that he had bought the uniform from a shop in Tambun and also expressed interest in becoming part of the military,” he said when contacted by the Malay daily.

The case is now being probed under Section 140 of the Penal Code for “wearing any garb, or carries any token resembling any garb or token used by such a soldier, sailor or airman”, and carries a jail term of up to three months, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both.
