He is survived by his wife and three children.
Many Malaysians often head over to Singapore for work in order to provide a better life for their family, where it requires them to travel back and forth between the two countries frequently.

A Malaysian man who spent a good portion of his life working in Singapore had his life cruelly taken away after he was killed in a road accident.

The victim was 46-year-old Zhang Changlong (transliteration), who was believed to have crashed his motorcycle into a stationary lorry parked by the roadside at Tuas Second Link.

The victim’s sister, Zhang Meijin (transliteration), told the Chinese daily that her brother came to Singapore to work when he was 17, travelled daily between Malaysia to Singapore on his motorcycle, and lived a frugal life.

Had saved up for a new house

She added that Zhang, his wife, and three children used to live in a rented house and that his greatest wish was to have his own house.

He eventually was able to purchase a terrace house and was scheduled to get the keys on July 2024, but we never expected something like this to happen.

“Following the accident, the police traced my brother’s last known address to his former rental place. A neighbour then contacted his daughter, where the tragic news was finally broken to the family,” she said.

Daughter pleads for eyewitnesses to come forward

Zhang’s sister added that her late brother’s 20-year-old daughter has since taken to social media to urge witnesses to the accident to come forward.

This comes after the family raised doubts about the cause of Zhang’s death.

The doctors said that my brother suffered severe injuries and fractured his right leg, but we wonder whether these injuries were solely caused by colliding with the lorry.

“The tragedy has also deeply affected my late brother’s family, where his wife has fallen into depression.

“Our mother, who suffers from an  autoimmune disorder, had just arrived in Singapore from East Malaysia for treatment just three days ago,” she said.

Our condolences to the family for their loss and may they be able to move on from the tragedy and find peace.
