Money can be a sensitive topic in any relationship, especially when both partners have different views on how finances should be managed after marriage.
Planning to get married next year
A Malaysian woman found herself in a dilemma after her future husband allegedly insisted on taking control of her entire salary once they were married.
Reported by mStar, the woman said the couple was planning to tie the knot next year.
However, her future husband had set a condition that made her question whether she should proceed with the marriage.
“We are planning to get married next year, but my future husband has set a condition that has left me in a dilemma,” she wrote.
Wants to keep her full salary
According to the woman, her future husband told her that he would be the one holding all of her salary after they got married.
When she asked why he needed full control of her income, he reportedly said the money would be kept and used for family emergencies.
After we get married, my husband will take control of my entire salary. When I asked him why, he said the money would be used for family emergencies,” she explained.
She added that her future husband was firm about the arrangement despite her expressing that she was uncomfortable with it.
“He insists on doing this even though I have refused,” she wrote.
Says his parents use the same arrangement
The woman said her future husband justified the condition by pointing to his own parents’ marriage.
According to him, his parents had practised the same financial arrangement for years and remained happily married.
“What do you think? His parents have been doing the same thing and are still happily married, so he plans to follow their example,” she said.
However, the woman appeared unsure whether an arrangement that worked for his parents would also be suitable for their relationship.
Future husband earns up to RM5,000
The woman also shared that her future husband was employed and earned between RM4,000 and RM5,000 a month.
On top of his full time job, he also worked as a part time e-hailing driver to earn additional income.
Despite both of them having their own earnings, he allegedly remained determined to manage all of her salary after marriage.
Concerned about the condition and his refusal to accept her rejection, the woman asked others whether she should continue with their marriage plans.
Should I still go ahead with the marriage?” she asked.
