‘Never Again’ — M’sian Man Falls Terribly Ill After Eating Snow During Japan Trip

Not everything white is 100% clean.
For those who haven’t seen snow in their lives before, it’s a sight to behold when able to see the chilly, white particles fall from the sky. Some may even be tempted to let some land on their tongues too to see how it feels like.

Unfortunately for a Malaysian man, he found himself falling extremely sick after he took several mouthfuls of snow while travelling in Japan.

A child is then heard laughing in the background and asking him, “Is it cold?”, to which Herman replies, “It tastes like ice!” before taking another bite.

Upon the second bite, Herman seemed to experience a slight dose of brain freeze, where he exclaims ‘Wah, sejuk! (cold)’ before huffing some of the snow out from his mouth.

Sadly, the frosty experience didn’t end well for Herman, where he wrote in the video caption that he later came down with a bad fever and flu which lasted for eight days, effectively ruining his Japan trip.

Old habit gone wrong?

Speaking to WeirdKaya, Herman said the incident took place during his trip to Yamagata. Thankfully, he wasn’t hospitalised despite the horrible aftereffects of eating the snow.

He also revealed that eating snow was an old habit of his which could be traced back to his student days in the UK.

I used to eat snow every time during the winter season when I studied in the UK years ago. I would often go for the freshest snow at an undisturbed place and never fell sick.

“Perhaps pollution back then wasn’t that bad. Fast forward, our earth got really polluted. I guess this time I got unlucky,” he said.

Herman also advised others not to simply stuff into their mouths no matter how “white and fluffy” it may be.

Is eating snow dangerous?

According to health experts, eating snow, whether it’s fresh or not, can pose potential health risks such as stomachaches, bloating, and diarrhea.

This is because snow’s primary role is acting as an air filter for the earth, where it collects contaminants and dirt as it falls to the ground.

Snow that has a yellow or brown hue to it must be avoided at all costs too as it indicates a high level of pollutants.
